Though Republican nominee Katherine Pinner unexpectedly announced she planned to drop out of the St. Louis County Executive race, she recently confirmed that she's planning to stay in.

Pinner told the GOP Central Committee last week that she planned to drop out, but as of late Monday, she had not filed in District Court to make it official.

On Tuesday, Pinner announced on her website that she was, in fact, staying in the race.

"I appreciate your thoughtfulness for those of you who have offered support, kindness, and prayers," Pinner's statement reads. "You are the reason I decided to put my name on the ballot. To clarify, my name has appeared on the ballot consistently since February 22 which was opening day for candidacy."

County Republican Party chair Rene Artman told KMOX that she got a text from Pinner early in the morning, affirming that she'd stay in the race.

"This morning she sent me a text message at 8:10 a.m.," Artman said. "And the text message said, 'I have prayed for guidance about this, I need to uphold my commitment to God, to myself and to the voters.'"

Pinner beat out conservative Shamed Dogan in the August primary election, a surprise victory since Pinner had done little campaigning and collected no contributions to her campaign. This is her first time running for office.
