
The trial for the murder of retired police captain David Dorn began on Monday morning.

Dorn, who was providing security for Lee's Pawn Shop in the summer of 2020, was fatally shot during a night of protests. Stephan Cannon, the accused shooter, is charged with first-degree murder.
The trial began with opening statements. The defense argued that police have no evidence linking Cannon to the killing.
Mark Jackson is also charged in the case, but defense argued he cooperated with police for a lesser charge.
The court has also heard testimony so far from Dorn's widow, Sgt. Ann Dorn, and an evidence technician from the SLMPD who processed the scene of the killing.
A ballistics expert is also spoke about processing bullet casings from the scene.
