A contract employee was killed Tuesday morning when a construction crane overturned at the Wood River Refinery in Madison County.
"An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway," Spokesperson Melissa Erker said. "OSHA has been contacted and is on scene at the refinery."
She added that the refinery is still in operation.
The crane that overturned was working on a project inside a unit of the Phillips 66 Refinery when the accident happened around 10:45 a.m.
The identity of the worker has not been released. Stay tuned to KMOX for more information as it becomes available.
