In order to make some money for his new venture, Elon Musk announced that Twitter users can pay for account verification for the simple sum of $8 a month.  Musk claimed that the pay system would "defeat the bots and trolls."

Since then, the social media app has been inundated with people creating fake "verified" accounts impersonating celebrities and organizations, and then sending out tweets that make them seem like legit messages!

Twitter has been thrown into chaos.

Per CBS News, Musk said that any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying they're a parody account would be "permanently suspended."

As of Friday morning, Twitter is pausing Twitter Blue signups to prevent more parody accounts from popping up.
