ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - An attorney representing the family of the 16-year-old teenager who was critically injured in a fight that went viral online near Hazelwood East High School released a statement Monday regarding the situation and status of the girl.

The family of Kaylee Gain, through their attorney Bryan M. Kaemmerer, says that Gain suffered a fractured skull that resulted in brain bleeding and swelling and she has not yet gained consciousness since the incident occurred.

The attorney says the full scope of Gain's injuries and process to recovery have not yet been determined until she regains conciousness.

"Kaylee parents want me to pass along their gratitude to the medical staff for their compassion and treatment, to the St. Louis County Police Department and the victim advocate that has been assigned to this case and the friends and family that reached out to them to express their love and support in these very trying times," said Kaemmerer in a statement.

The attorney also confirmed that two GoFundMe pages that went up last week were set up by two woman with one of them being a family friend and another being Gain's cousin. Both pages has seen almost $364,000 combined in donations so far. The donations will be used to help family pay for medical bills and assist the family with the lost wages they have lost from spending their time to support Gain.

Kaermmerer says that family would like to see justice through the legal system in the future, but for now, their focus remains exclusively to Gain's recovery.

The family also says they don't retaliation of any kind to occur towards anybody that was directly or indirectly involved in the incident.

Gain was critically injured and hospitalized following a fight that unfolded March 10 at the intersection of Norgate and Claudine near Hazelwood East High School. A 15-year-old suspect was arrested and is currently being held by St. Louis County Family Court on assault charges, but their identity will not be disclosed due to the suspect being a minor.

The fight went viral on social media, with a video showing a girl slamming Gain's head into the ground multiple times.
