St. Louis County has recorded its first heat-related death of the season.
The medical examiner confirms a man in his 80s from west St. Louis County died July 3rd.
County health director Dr. Kanika Cunningham says the loss is a heartbreaking reminder that extreme heat can be deadly and that every heat-related death is preventable. With more extreme heat expected throughout the summer, health officials are urging residents to stay hydrated, limit time in the sun, and check on elderly neighbors and relatives... especially those without air conditioning.
If you need a cooling center, call 211.
The high temperature in St. Louis on July 3rd was 93 degrees, but heat indicies were in the triple digits.
