Former St. Charles Mayor Sally Faith on her dementia diagnosis and her new book

Sally Faith had finished her term as mayor of St. Charles when she decided to write a book. It was in the midst of the pandemic when she began, and all was going well — but then, people close to her started getting concerned for her wellbeing.

"Two of my best girlfriends called my son and told him that I need help. And so my son called me and wanted to come over and see me," she said. "And he says, 'Your girlfriends are saying that you need help. And my wife, and I agree, something is different.'"

Faith said she was bitter at first at the assertion. But, she knew she did feel different. She thought it was the pandemic affecting her mental state. But then, she went to a neurologist. That's when she was diagnosed with dementia.

"When they said those words to me, I said, 'Sally, you talk all the time. You want to tell everybody about this. You want to talk about how it works. You want people to know, people to understand that you can keep going.'"

So she changed course with her book. "I'm Losing My Memory; I'm NOT Losing My Mind" came out this July. Listen to Sally Faith's interview with KMOX's Carol Daniel to hear more about her journey since her diagnosis:
