PHOTOS: Artists preparing floats for St. Louis VP Parade, awaiting confirmation it will happen

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - After a year without parades, a team of artists in a Midtown warehouse has been quietly putting together the floats for what they hope will be America's Birthday Parade, July 3, sponsored by the Veiled Prophet.
"Around here, it's full speed ahead. We're planning on a parade July 3rd," said Artistic Director Ryan Marshall.

The final go-ahead from the city has not yet been given, but Marshall says they are working to complete 21 floats, and booking marching bands and musical acts.
"We are absolutely planning on this parade," Marshall said, "We are hoping this will be the opening of the city."
This year's thee is "America the Beautiful" with floats featuring live music--Rock and Roll, Blues and Mardi Gras Music.
The floats also include a tribute to the state of Missouri, which is celebrating its bicentennial. The Missouri float features a covered wagon and a bucking mule.
There's also a recreation of the Lincoln Memorial, a float that will showcase live music performed by bands from different branches of the military.
A spokesman for the mayor's office says there's no timetable on when a final decision will be made about having the parade, but it would include the Health Director considering the number of cases, hospitalizations, and how organizers would keep parade watchers safe.
