FARMINGTON, Mo. (KMOX) - The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-2 and EF-3 tornados thrashed southwestern Missouri and southeastern Illinois Sunday night. The storms caused overnight damage to buildings and knocked out power, but left no serious injuries.
The stronger storm hit Fredericktown and hit the main electrical substation that feeds power to the city of about 4,000. The other hit St. Mary, Missouri, about 55 miles southeast of St. Louis, and crossed the Mississippi River into Chester, Illinois.
