Granite City Police officer shot, suspect at large

Granite City Police were called to the 2000 block of Johnson road for an unwanted individual. According to Police Chief Gary Brooks, the individual opened fire on the responding officers.

"One officer was struck several times. He has been transported to a local hospital where he has been receiving treatment."

The victim was not identified but is said to be a four year veteran of the department.

The shooting took place near Pizza World. According to Brooks the subject fled on foot after the shooting.

The suspect is described as a white man with dark hair wearing a dark jacket but police believe they have recovered the jacket along with his hat and bag.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him is encouraged to not approach him and to call 911.
