A union steelworker died Saturday at the U.S. Steel mill in Granite City.
The company issued a statement that says, "There are no words that can capture the grief we feel for our colleague and their family, friends, and co-workers." It goes on to say that the company will cooperate fully with all investigations into the matter.
A steelworkers union official says they were told the death happened due to a high-voltage flash in the cold mill part of the facility.
The victim's name has not been released, but the union's district director says he was a 62-year-old electrician with 14 years experience there.
