Grass at Busch replaced

The grass at Busch Stadium might look a little greener this weekend.

Grass at Busch replaced

The Cardinals rolled out an all new grass field this week, just in time for Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals.

Senior Manager of Cardinals Field Operations, Justin Scott, says crews started installing the field on Sunday and finished by midday Tuesday.
Scott says this marks the second time they've installed bermudagrass, which is the grass blend the team switched to in 2023.

"Part of the reason we did install this grass, switching from the bluegrass, was some of the extreme weather we deal with during the course of the baseball season - torrential rains, very high levels of heat and humidity, and this grass really thrives in that to be quite honest." Scott says the Cardinals are the only team in the MLB to use the grass blend except for the Kansas City Royals.

Scott says the grass is in it's prime from June to October, which is why they replaced the field now.

The move marks the third time the grass has been replaced during season since the Stadium opened in 2006.
