It's a real thing says Mercy Clinic dermatologist Dr. Jason Reinberg in Washington, Missouri: "We're seeing a lot of hair loss recently from COVID. COVID infections, especially the more severe infections, can trigger a type of alopecia... ...where people suddenly start losing hair about 3 months or so after the event. So we're definitely seeing more of that lately."

Dr. Reinberg says the cause is mainly stress-related and usually resolves on its own.

But he says the topical treatment Rogaine available over the counter can help in some situations as well.
