ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI - (KMOX) Harris-Stowe State University made the surprise announcement Friday evening that President Corey Bradford has left the school after only one year on the job. Dr. Bradford, they say, left to pursue another opportunity at a research university, but did not say which one... or if he even landed that job. The statement from Harris-Stowe noted Provost and Vice President of Student Affairs, LaTonia Collins Smith "will serve as interim president from June 1." That statement was made on June 4.
Dr. Bradford was selected as the 20th President of Harris-Stowe in May 2020, and inaugurated the next month. He came to the school from another historically Black college, Prairie View A&M in Texas. But Dr. Bradford is actually from St. Louis, and earned his PhD in Higher Education Administration from SIU-Carbondale.
As for her role, Interim President Collins Smith had only been in her position since August of last year. There had been no publicly acknowledged challenges that may have lead Dr. Bradford to seek employment elsewhere.
