ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - One card could make the holidays a little brighter for people living in long-term care. VOYCE, an advocacy group for nursing home residents, is asking the community to send 15,000 cards -- one for every skilled nursing resident in St. Louis City, St. Louis County and Jefferson County.
"Even though a lot of those pandemic restrictions about visitation have been lifted, a lot of folks still don't have visitors," explains VOYCE Executive Director Marjorie Moore. "Family members live far away, maybe they're estranged, maybe they're the only ones left. A lot of these folks don't get a lot of contact from the outside world. So just a little note reminding someone that you care, something that puts a smile on somebody's face, that takes them through the day."
Executive Director Marjorie Moore says 11,000 cards have been pledged, so they're hoping for commitments for 4,000 more holiday cards by Dec. 7.
