Hourslong standoff in Drury Plaza Hotel ends with suspect taken to hospital

UPDATE: St. Louis Police have not released an official statement. But it's believed the suspect who was in the hotel room with a woman was brought out without incident, after nearly a 12 hour standoff.

It is believed both the man and woman were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

This is what the police said earlier Wednesday:

"At approximately 5:13 this morning, officers received a call from a child inside a hotel room at the Drury Plaza Hotel at the Arch. The child indicated that they were locked inside of a bathroom with a sibling, and that a male was fighting with their mother. At some point, the male got on the line and indicated he was armed with a weapon. Officers responded and were able to remove the children from the hotel room; however, the male remained barricaded in the room with an adult female. A 7250 (Hostage Situation) was declared. Hostage Negotiation and SWAT officers responded to the scene and was able to make contact with the male subject."

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Two children have been released from a hostage situation at a downtown St. Louis hotel Wednesday morning while a woman is still being held against her will.

At 5:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, police were dispatched to the Drury Hotel at 4th and Market after reports of man holding women and children hostage the hotel. The man is believed to be possibly armed with a firearm.

According to St. Louis Metropolitan Police, at 5:15 a.m., one of the two children called police telling them that they and their sibling were trapped and locked in a hotel bathroom and that a man was fighting with their mother.

The man seized the phone from the child and told dispatch that he was armed.

Police say the situation has been contained to the hotel room where the situation is still ongoing and guests on the floor of the incident and in the hotel were safely evacuated from the scene but a woman is till being held against her will.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police says SWAT and hostage negotiation officers are at the scene, and they are advising civilians to avoid the area. They do not believe the situation is a threat to the public.
