Darren Bailey urged people to "move on" in the wake of the shooting, and received backlash.

"Let’s pray for justice to prevail, and then move on and let’s celebrate the independence of this nation," he said on Monday afternoon.

Now, he's backtracking.

"The thought that my initial response could have caused more pain is certainly something that would keep me up at night and I'm sorry," Bailey said.

The Chicago Sun Times reports that after reading a bible verse about compassion, humility and patience, Bailey said, "I need to be better at that. And I ask for your forgiveness."
