Missouri attorney John Wood has been a part of the January 6th Committee for months. But now, he's preparing to resign from his position on the committee -- presumably to run for U.S. Senate.

Wood is a former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri. He was also previously an aid to Senator John Danforth, who asked Wood to run.

Wood has until August 1 to collect 10,000 signatures to qualify for the November ballot as an independent. Wood would be entering a crowded race, facing up against candidates like former Missouri Governor Eric Greitens, Rep. Vicky Hartzler, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, Lucas Kunce and Trudy Busch Valentine.
