ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Jeff Roorda, the controversial and outspoken business manager for the St. Louis Police Officers Association, has been ousted from his position.

The Association's president, Jay Shroeder, didn't give much information, telling KMOX, "It was just an internal personnel matter, and we'll leave it at that."

Alderwoman Megan Green, who has been a longtime critic of Roorda, said he had become an unwelcome presence to some.

"What I can say is just about every time he would come down to City Hall to lobby against any kind of police reform, it would raise the tensions in the room."

On Monday, Roorda declined to be interviewed, but his earlier statement said he has "no apologies" and "no regrets" that he stood up for cops. Roorda drew criticism for his public support of Officer Darren Wilson, after Wilson killed Michael Brown in Ferguson in 2014.

Retired city police detective Joe Steiger will take over for Roorda, as the union is trying to break a stalemate with City Hall over police contract negotiations.
