Drivers who use the Jefferson Barracks Bridge are starting to notice a change to the structure -- it's undergoing a change in color.
The bridge has been a brown color since it was built around 30 years ago, but now it's being painted gray.
MoDOT District Bridge Engineer Joe Millinaro told KMOX's Brian Kelly that the bridge being gray will make it easier to inspect.
"It's a better contrast, because typically you're looking for rust and you're looking for streaking of rust where there might be cracks and other defects," Millinaro said. "So, it's a lot harder to find brown rust with brown paint."
Mollinaro said there was some internal discussion about changing the color after so many years, but they decided to go with the color that would improve inspections. He said the westbound side will be painted next summer.
