The Kirkwood City Council takes up a plan Thursday night to set the zoning rules for recreational marijuana stores.
The suburb of gingerbread porches, big trees and the old fashioned train station has no recreational marijuana store yet, but Kirkwood City Attorney John Hessel says they want to be ready if they do come. "There's certainly people within the city who are members of the city council who are disappointed by the fact that you can have recreational marijuana, but the voters have spoken"
Under the zoning plan, recreational marijuana stores in Kirkwood could be no closer than a thousand feet from a school, church or day care center.
Kirkwood voters will decide the separate issue on the April ballot of whether to impose a three-percent sales tax on any recreational marijuana stores that come to town.
