SHE DID IT! KMOX host completes 6-hour, 45-mile run, raises more than $54K for BackStoppers

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Similar to the way first responders go above and beyond the call of duty to serve and protect their community, KMOX host Amy Marxkors went above and far beyond her goal to support and show her love for BackStoppers.

About three weeks ago she started with a goal to raise $10,000 as she ran for six hours nonstop. She raised more than $54,000 when she crossed her finish line at noon on Thursday. And she ran a total of 45.4 miles – the farthest she's ever gone in a single run.

And the donations have continued!

Leading up and during her run, Marxkors had a ton of support from her co-workers at KMOX and friends and family who were with her for the run. St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson and Backstoppers Executive Director Ron Battelle were there for Marxkors at the finish line as well.

BackStoppers provides financial and emotional help to the families of first responders who are killed in the line of duty. Marxkors, who is the co-host of The Charlie Brennan Show with Amy Marxkors, discussed the importance of the organization and why it means so much to her.

"One of the things that moves me most is that BackStoppers isn't just a check to those families," Marxkors says. "Yes, they provide critical financial support, but they also step in and expand the family. They go to the kids' baseball games, they sit down and the table and talk with the spouse about financial planning for college or what debt do you have that they need to take care of. And that type of help is critical."

We'd like to give a special thanks to Budweiser Zero for sponsoring Amy's run.

And you can still donate to her campaign at BackStoppers.org/AmyMarxkorsRun.
