There's a new leader taking helm of LaunchCode, the job training organization founded in 2013 by local tech entrepreneur Jim McKelvey.

Julian Nicks had served on the non-profit's board of directors. He stepped down from that role last week in anticipation of taking over as CEO.

The hiring comes after previous CEO Tasmyn Scarl left after only about two months in the position. She had joined in March, succeeding longtime executive Jeff Mazur, who'd been with LaunchCode since 2015.

Nicks' most recent full-time position was located in Chicago with consulting firm Bain & Company. Nicks was also previously director of transformation for the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development.

"Julian has a track record of making businesses more efficient and re-investing those resources to drive scale," McKelvey said in a written statement. "We are excited about how he will move us forward.”

"Since its founding, LaunchCode has had an incredible impact on our learners, our employer partners, and the broader local economy in the regions in which we operate," Nicks said in the statement. "I look forward to leading the passionate, dedicated team at LaunchCode to continue to create lasting impact in the communities we serve."

He'll move to his hometown of St. Louis for the position.
