ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Longmeadow Rescue Ranch needs you help in naming a baby alpaca.

According to the ranch in a press release, the ranch recently took in two female alpacas from Oklahoma on Sept. 30. To the surprise of the ranch, one of the alpacas gave birth to a baby alpaca, also known as a cria, only a few hours after arriving at the ranch.

The ranch says that the mother alpaca was in poor health and unable to support the newsborn cria with colostrum, or first milk. But luckily the ranch was able to jump in to supplement and save the cria's life. The mother alpaca was eventually able to take over and she and the cria are doing well.

Longmeadow is now seeking the public's help in choosing the cria's name. The finalists for the cria's name are Michael, Alpacacino, Pacha and Fruitloop. The public can head on over to Longmeadow's Facebook page and comment what you think the cria's name should be. The official name will be announced on Monday, Oct. 28.

The ranch says that in the weeks since his birth, the cria has spent his days nursing and getting acquainted with the world.

For now, he is not available for public viewing or interaction.
