Maggie O'Brien's to close this weekend for renovations

The original Maggie O'Brien's location, out in front of the new Major League Soccer Stadium, is closing down Saturday to renovate.

It's typically been a hockey bar, but General Manager Aaron Snively told KMOX "all that's about to change." After the renovations, Maggie O'Brien's should be able to fit 750 soccer fans -- or more -- by the time Centene Stadium is finished being built.

"We're gonna do about a six week shutdown," Snively said. "We're gonna do a full remodel of this floor, make it a better flow, more seating capacity...an upgrade."

Snively said the bar has had a long history -- and now it's time for its first update in nearly half a century.

"We've been in business now 44 years. Everything in here is pretty much the way it was 44 years ago," he said. "So it's time for us to make some changes for the better."

Snively said he's looking to add more beers soccer fans might enjoy, like Carlsberg or Guinness.

A new coat of green paint now adorns the old brick facade. The interior will all be changed -- expect for where the old bar sits. It's been there since the 1970s.

The timeline to reopen is this September before a game is played at Centene Stadium.
