Manchester Mayor makes his case for annexation

The City of Manchester has proposed an annexation that would make about 6,500 residents of unincorporated St. Louis County into Manchester residents.

County Executive Sam Page has voiced his opposition to the plan, saying those 6,500 residents in unincorporated County territory would have less access to resources like police. But Manchester Mayor Mike Clement says the idea is simply logical.

"It's bordered on two sides with our current city city limits. These are people that we shop with, our kids go to gather at the public schools," Clement said. "All of the Parkway schools kind of share families and parents, and we worship together. A lot of the unincorporated families use our amenities, our aquatic center on our swim clubs and things like that."

Clement said it makes sense to connect friends and family in this way. And, he said, the City of Manchester provides better services than what they're currently getting from St. Louis County.
