St. Louis Soccer Legend Pat McBride dies

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Pat McBride grew up in soccer rich St. Louis and played for his parish school team in the Catholic youth leagues.

He then attended St. Louis University High and from 1963 to 1967 played for the St. Louis University Billikens.

In 1964 and 65 he was selected as a first team All American. Following his graduation from SLU, he became the first American born player to be drafted by the St. Louis Stars of the National Professional Soccer League.

McBride played 10 seasons for the Stars, until the club moved to California in 1978, and he was a first-team All-Star in 1972. He was inducted to the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1994.
