Meet the artist behind Anheuser-Busch's new Clydesdale mural

Earlier this week, workers started taking down the iconic Clydesdales mural on the side of the Anheuser-Busch building off I-55. But not to worry — that mural is going to be replaced with a new one, still featuring the Clydesdales, but it'll be more vibrant and durable.

Phil Jarvis is the local painter behind the new mural. He joined KMOX to talk about the vision behind the new design and more.

"I was happy to do it. I've done several things around Anheuser Busch, so they already knew the work that I did. So I think it was a natural selection, hopefully," Jarvis said.

The new mural, he said, is around 12 feet tall and 100 feet long. "I did an eight foot replica, and I just painted that one at my studio," he said. "And then they took my replica and they high resolution scanned it and blew it up to the size that it's going to be on the building."

Jarvis has been painting since he was six years old, he told KMOX. Then, when he had kids, he started painting murals in their bedrooms. One thing led to another, and pretty soon he was doing it all the time. Now, his work is all over the world — he's painted murals in 23 different states, and cities in Italy, Germany, France and Colombia.

One thing he did to make the mural his own — he put his own profile in the new mural. Jarvis has a pointed beard, making his profile pretty recognizable. "I hide that in pretty much all the murals I do someplace. So that's like, kind of find Waldo sort of thing. It's pretty cool."

The new mural will go up in the next day or two. Hear more from Phil Jarvis, the artist behind the new mural on the Anheuser-Busch building:
