For years, Metro East Cardinals fans heading to Busch Stadium have flocked to the water tower at the St. Clair Square shopping mall for a ride. This year, though, the departure location for the service long known as "Redbird Express" is changing.
St. Clair County Transit District says the bus will now board from the St. Clair County Parking Garage at 100 South First Street in Belleville. There's free covered parking.
The District says it was shifted from the mall lot to accommodate upcoming events in Belleville that need that space.
The service runs every Friday and Saturday home game, with buses leaving Belleville 60 to 90 minutes before first pitch, as each bus fills up. Riders are dropped off at Clark Avenue and South Broadway, near Busch Stadium Gates 5 and 6. After the game, the bus picks up on Clark Avenue between South Broadway and Fourth Street, with new buses leaving up to 45 minutes after the final out.
Riders can also use MetroLink to get downtown. The Belleville Transit Center on Scheel Street is about a mile away and has free parking. MetroLink runs direct to the Stadium Station by the Stan Musial statue.
