ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Missouri Democratic Delegates at the Democratic National Convention knows they are in a rebuilding phase at the moment according to a reporter at the convention in Chicago.

Thursday marks the last day of the Democratic National Convention and while the attention has certainly been on Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Vice President Kamala Harris, locally in Missouri, the convention experience has been quite a talking among the delegates for Missouri at the convention.

"For Missouri, they feel like they are in a rebuilding phase, they feel like they need to bring this palpable energy that is here in Chicago, how do they bring it home to Missouri, especially in rural area?," said Ashley Byrd, a reporter for Learfield and Missouri Net at the convention on Total Information A.M. "It's a lot more policy talk rather than personality."

"What they are trying to do is trying to rebuild. One party spokesperson (told me) that it wasn't too long ago that there were Democratic leaders in the state and they feel like they can get back there."

Byrd says the biggest talking point from not only Missouri delegates, but also some national Democratic officials is about Lucas Kunce, who is running for incumbent U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley's seat in the Senate.

"Everyone who I've talked, even on the national level, believes Josh Hawley is vulnerable," said Byrd. "That's really the talk that I'm hearing. Of course they are playing up Crystal Quade, but that's really the talk that we're hearing. Somewhere on the Senate level that there is a weakness."
