ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Not that this is news to anyone in St. Louis, but it's always nice to hear experts from outside our city who love our special style of pizza. Missouri has been ranked among the best pizza states in the US.
Thanks to St. Louis-style pizza, Missouri made the top-10 list of Food and Wine Magazine's David Landsel. Illinois and its variety of Chicago-style pizza also made the ranking.
At No. 10, Landsel named a number of Missouri pizza joints from the greater St. Louis area, such as Faraci's Pizza in Manchester, Frank & Helen's in University City, Union Loafers in Tower Grove and Noto Italian Restaurant in St. Peters. And of course, Imo's.
He writes about the history of Provel cheese, "a highly-processed blend of provolone, Swiss, and cheddar, packaged it in giant bricks." And notes that the pizza is so popular that people will order it online from around the country.
Illinois came in at No. 4 on the list with it's varying takes on Chicago deep-dish pizza.
