ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Missouri Department of Transportation crews are closing part of a north St. Louis street because of a "significant drop" in the pavement. It looks like part of the road is sinking.

A section of westbound Bircher Boulevard at Union Boulevard, near Interstate 70, will remain closed until MoDOT crews can figure out what happened and fix the problem.

Drivers may want to avoid the area and use Kingshighway to West Florissant to either southbound Union or Riverview to get onto the interstate as alternate routes.

"The roadway will remain closed until we determine why it's dropping and come up with an appropriate fix," MoDOT stated on Twitter.
