ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - KMOX has taken the raw data from the St. Louis Police Department's NIBRS reports and has found through the first four months of 2024, St. Louis's violent crime rate is down across all but one category: murders.
There have been 53 murders through the first four months of 2024, compared to 48 in 2023. April and January saw the most murders through this year with 14 and 19, respectively.

Total violent crimes through the first four months of 2024 total 1,119, with 170 fewer violent crimes than last year and nearly 300 fewer at this point in 2022.

Despite April seeing the most assaults since October, through 2024, there have been nearly 130 fewer assaults than last year.

Rapes saw a significant decline, dropping from 45 through the first four months of last year to only 15 in 2024.

There have also been 60 fewer non-fatal shootings compared to this time in 2023.

Shootings and murders were a focus of the violence reduction seminar local leaders across the region participated in this fall. KMOX looked at that number and found even with the increase in murders, shootings and murders combined are down from 2023.

Below the raw data from each month dating back to January of 2021 can be found.
Key: Red=high volume of violent crimes - Green=low volume of violent crimes
