ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - A Missouri organization says women could be a key part of restoring the state's economy. United Women's Empowerment -- known as United WE -- has formed a task force to look at barriers for women in the workplace and policy changes that might clear a path for more participation. The Women's Economic Development Task Force is a panel of 18 business and civic leaders and elected officials.

The McKinsey Global Institute estimates Missouri's economy could expand 10-15% in the next four years with more involvement from women.

United WE President and CEO Wendy Doyle tells KMOX, entrepreneurship will be a key focus. "We know that access to capital for women is always a challenge. Men are always priority over women when it comes to capital. So I'd like for us to be able to look at opportunities that we can spur our economy in Missouri by getting more women launching small businesses."

Childcare and workplace policies are also likely to be on the agenda. "What I hope that we hear are not only barriers that can be reduced, but things that are working well in the state of Missouri, so we'll certainly highlight that," expains Doyle.

The Women's Economic Development Task Force will hold seven town hall forums before Ocrober and issue a report by Thanksgiving.
