ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - In a story KMOX has been following, problem properties in St. Louis City and what can be done with them. Legislation has been introduced in the Board of Alderman by Alderman Narayan that likely goes to committee this Tuesday.
Sergeant Charles Wall says problem properties like OPOP on Locust have several units but not every one is a problem. But adds the troublesome units are being dealt with. "We have problem property officers specifically assigned from the police department that work the building division and the City Counselor's office."
But now this new legislation requires the City to maintain a list of violations and revoke permits of nuisance properties. Violators will be fined 500-dollars per violation.
And to receive short term permits, neighbors must be notified. This bill also gives the building commissioner authority to revoke permits.
Properties in violation can face permit revocation. All will be required to have a person available 24-7. And all short term rentals will be required to apply for a permit.
