ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones signed into law a bill "prohibiting race-based hair discrimination."
She announced on Friday Board Bill 222, also known as the CROWN Act, bans the denial of employment and educational opportunities because of hair texture or protective hairstyles including braids, locks, twists or Bantu knots.
"For too long, this has been a barrier to employment for black and brown folks," Jones stated.
A similar bill is also in place in Kansas City, another is in consideration in St. Louis County and the Mayor is pushing for a state-wide bill to be passed.
