ST. Louis (KMOX) - Council Chairwoman Rita Heard Days will introduce the no confidence resolution against St. Louis County Police Chief Mary Barton at Tuesday night's meeting. Days tells KMOX News, she has the votes for adoption.
Days says this action comes after several questionable incidents and Chief Barton's lack of leadership and focus. The most recent incident, St. Louis County Police Officer Shanette Hall being transferred out of Human Resources after an interview with a national media outlet talking about problems within the police department.
Hall is also a board member of the Ethical Society of Police and ESOP declared no confidence in Chief Barton
In a press conference outside of County Police headquarters Friday, Reverend Darryl Gray calls the County Police Board a wash and doesn't expect action from them because they were appointed by County Executive Doctor Sam Page. Days is calling on the Police Board to take action. The council has no authority to hire or fire a chief.
In a separate action, Doctor Page appointed Brian Ashworth as the new Chairman of the Police Board Monday, following the abrupt resignation of former Chairman Judge William Ray Price Junior last month.
