Nurses for a locally-based health system give notice they plan to strike.
Registered nurses who work at three hospitals in Kansas and Texas operated by St. Louis County-based Ascension have given notice of plans to walk out for one day, on Wednesday, December 6th. They say they're working in unsafe conditions at the hospitals.
An RN in the NICU at St. Joseph in Wichita accuses the health care system of using floating nurses, quote, "without regard to their competencies or clinical specialties."
The National Nurses United union also says there are issues with equipment shortages.
Ascension says it's "disappointed" in the decision, and believes "differences are best resolved respectfully at the bargaining table."
