On Sunday, January 11th, 2026 at 07:13 a.m., the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call reporting an active disturbance at a residence in the 2600 block of Old Collinsville Road in unincorporated Belleville, IL. The caller advised that a male family member had attacked relatives at the home with a knife, causing significant injuries.
When deputies arrived at the area, they were confronted by the armed suspect, and a deputy fired his weapon, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.
St. Clair County Sheriff Richard Watson has requested that the Illinois State Police Zone 6 Investigations Division assist our agency in conducting an independent investigation per our agency policy.
This remains an active investigation, and any further updates will be provided by the Illinois State Police Zone 6.

St. Clair County, IL (KMOX) - Illinois State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting after7:00 this (Sunday) morning.
St. Clair County Deputies were responding to a domestic incident where one person was reportedly stabbed.
ISP reports deputies encountered a person walking with a gun, near the residence of the initial call, in the 28-hundred block of Collinsville Avenue. One deputy shot the suspect, there was a struggle and the person was transported to the hospital.
ISP is not releasing any information on the suspect or the extent of the injuries, nor anything on the person reportedly stabbed.
