ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A historic building in downtown St. Louis is getting some new tenants. From the state.
The Old Post Office, which was built in 1884, will now have offices for Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe, State Treasurer Vivek Malek and Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick.
Those offices won't replace the 600 employees moving to Chesterfield after the sale of the Wainwright building last year, but Kehoe says this move does send a message.
"I think it's important for us to make the statement if we start saying our number one issue is public safety," said Gov. Kehoe. "We want to make sure we are right in the center of where everybody wants to be."
Gov. Kehoe, who was in St. Louis on Thursday, says he's already impressed with the business spending in areas around the soccer and baseball stadiums.
"It's just unbelievable the investment we have seen in this area up and downtown," said Gov. Kehoe. "We want to be here. This is the spot to be and we're grateful to be here today."
The Old Post Office, located on 800 Olive Street, already houses other state offices and the Missouri Court of Appeals.
A group led by Greater St. Louis bought the Wainwright Building.
