ST. JACOB, IL (KMOX) One man was killed, another was seriously injured Saturday, when their single-engine plane crashed along a road in rural Madison County, Illinois.

Investigators say 39-year-old Buck Martin of Edwardsville took off from Madison County's Shafer Field in a Piper Comanche. He and co-pilot, 60-year-old Robert Binger of Lake City, Florida may have been planning to work on landing maneuvers. But moments after take off, witnesses say the engine sputtered and the plane went down quickly.

Binger died at the scene, on the side of Keck Road near Illinois Route 4. The N-T-S-B and F-A-A are investigating. Records show the plane was registered to Binger and was manufactured in 1958.
