This will be the first increase in six years, according to St. Louis' Parking Administrator Leonard Freeman.

Meters are going up 50-cents an hour and fines are increasing by $5. That means a parking ticket will now cost you $20 and a public safety infraction will cost $45.

St. Louis currently has the cheapest parking rates among large U.S. cities, according to a study cited by Freeman. Even after the increase we will still rank among the lowest, he says.

The City's Parking Division has seen its budget cut by millions in recent years.
