ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A building that has been part of the St. Louis skyline for 55 years is coming down.
The 321-foot Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s Queeny Tower that has stood at the corner of Kingshighway and Barnes-Jewish Plaza is being demolished starting next week. The hospital says they're making room for a new 17-story inpatient tower to go in its place.
In March, a 400-foot crane will begin the task of safely tearing down the building’s exterior one floor at a time. Scaffolding, protective netting and plywood installed on three sides (north, east, and west) of the building will contain debris within the site.
You can watch the entire demolition via three web cams on BJC.org/Construction.
The crane stands on the south side, where debris is loaded into trucks for removal. Demolition will conclude in late-September.
