Some county Election Directors across Missouri are warning the Missouri Legislature to be careful about bringing back the Presidential Preference Primary too close to the regular spring election.
St. Louis County Republican Director of Elections Rick Stream says it could become too much to handle, "with a three week period between the two elections that is not enough time for St. Louis County to bring their machines back from the 220 different polling places and then reprogram them, test them, and then get them back out in the field for the April election."
Stream says the Presidential Primary would have to either come on the same day as the spring election, or much earlier. But he says the national parties might not want Missouri upstaging the process of which states get to have an early say in the Presidential race.
Last year, the Missouri legislature approved a caucus system. There is no rule obligating eventual delegates to their candidate.
