ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The NFL season is back Thursday night with the Kansas City Chiefs kicking off the season at home against the Baltimore Ravens.

Many Missourians will certainly tune in to watch the game and especially the Chiefs, as one poll found the Chiefs were, unsurprisingly, the most followed NFL team among Missourians.

According to a recent YouGov Poll conducted by Saint Louis University, among 900 likely voters surveyed for the poll, they found that overwhelmingly, 43% of Missourians polled say the Chiefs are their favorite NFL team.

Across St. Louis and Kansas City, 76% of voters from Kansas City were Chiefs fans, while only 25% of voters from St. Louis say they supported the Chiefs.

Other teams that also received support were the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, who came in second and third respectively, but neither not surprisingly came anywhere near close to the level of support the Chiefs had in Missouri. Thirty-four percent stated they did not have a favorite team.

What could come as a shock to some, especially in St. Louis, is the Los Angeles Rams, who left St. Louis in 2015, still have a bit of support among Missouri voters, with two percent of voters in Missouri still supporting the Rams. In St. Louis, four percent of voters named the Rams as their favorite team.

Across the state of Missouri, the poll found the Rams were most popular among voters between the ages of 18 to 29 years old.

While many Missourians are Chiefs fans, the poll also found that many Chiefs fans are also St. Louis Cardinals fans, with 43% of Chiefs fans saying they support the Cardinals, compared to the 39% who support the Royals 12% said they did not have a favorite Major League Baseball team.

“The Chiefs popularity is impressive. Overall, only 41% of voters named the St. Louis Cardinals their favorite Major League Baseball team, giving the Chiefs a 2-point edge on the “best fans in baseball,” said Steven Rogers, Ph.D., SLU/YouGov Poll Director and associate professor of political science at SLU. “But it also helps they are the only NFL team left in the Show-Me-State.”
