ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The laboratory director for multiple St. Louis-area Barnes-Jewish Hospitals says the blood supply shortage is the worst she's seen in 10 years.

Dr. Rhonda Cooke fears patients in need or blood in the coming weeks may not have it available. She's hoping to rally local residents to donate, soon.
One way you can help is by making one more blood donation before the Christmas holidays. Join the Red Cross, Audacy Radio of St.
Louis and local YMCA’s of Greater and Metro St. Louis at the inaugural Holiday Heroes Blood Drive December 21st-23rd.
There are 20 locations to choose to from and these YMCA locations are offering a $0 Enrollment Fee for all donors who join the day of the blood drive. Make your appointment through the Red Cross Blood Donor app, www.redcrossblood.org or 1-800-RED CROSS and reference/enter sponsor code AUDACY.
To encourage donations this month, all who come to give December 17-January 2 will receive an exclusive Red Cross long-sleeved T-shirt, while supplies last.

There is no blood donation waiting period for those who have received a flu shot or a Moderna, Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine or booster, so long as they are symptom-free.© 2021 KMOX (Audacy). All rights reserved

Each Red Cross blood drive and donation center follows the highest standards of safety and infection control, and additional precautions – including face masks for donors and staff, regardless of vaccination status – have been implemented to help protect the health of all those in attendance. Donors are asked to schedule an appointment prior to arriving at the drive.
