FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL (KMOX) - A popular ride to Cardinals games is not coming back this season. Since the 1980's, Cardinals fans have ridden the Redbird Express from St. Clair Square Mall to Busch Stadium, but a lack of drivers is putting an end to the service.

St. Clair County Transit Director Ken Sharkey says, "the St. Clair County Transit District does not operate the service, we contract for it. And Metro Transit is our contract provider." Sharkey says it was voluntary for drivers, who earned extra pay.
He says they would get 1 ,000 to 2,000 fans a game riding the Redbird Express. "It's unfortunate for the people that like the service, some depend on the service, I think there's some people who may not go to the ballgame because the service isn't there. They just enjoyed that experience." 60% or more would come from outside St. Clair County to use the service. Riders were not typically transit riders.
