ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - U.S. Rep. Cori Bush, the St. Louis native and first-year Congresswoman shared on social media an extremely vulgar and racist message that was sent to her. She put "TW" at the start of her post to give people a "trigger warning" before reading further.
Bush is a former nurse and activist from St. Louis whose popularity before the 2020 election grew since the civil unrest that began in Ferguson after the shooting death of Michael Brown in 2014.
"TW: white supremacist violence," Bush wrote on Instagram. "White supremacists wanted me dead before I came to Congress. And white supremacist threats on my life have only intensified as a Black woman speaking truth in the halls of power.
"Just know: They won’t stop us. They can’t."
*WARNING - The below post uses vulgar language*
Within minutes of posting, there were more than 11,000 likes and dozens of comments from Bush's 412,000 followers.
Since being voted into office, Bush has been involved in a standoff with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and moved her office saying she was "berated" in the hallway by Taylor Green. She also began the call to have members on Congress who objected to President Joe Biden's victory be expelled.
The public comments on the Instagram post by Bush have been overwhelmingly positive to her.
"You are so loved and supported, Cori. That terrifies them," says soyouwanttotalkabout.
"Unreal. Clearly, your brilliance has their attention. Don’t let their darkness dim your light, and fight on! We have your back," stated joshpurk.
