Bush's spokesman says she was not in the vehicle and there's no indication it was targeted. No one was hurt.

"Like far too many of us in St. Louis, experiencing gun violence is all to familiar," Bush said in a statement. "Thankfully no one was harmed. But any act of gun violence shakes your soul."

"No one should have to fear for their safety here in St. Louis and that is exactly why our movement is working every day to invest in our communities, eradicate the root causes of gun violence, and keep every neighborhood safe."

Bush is entering her second year as the first Black female congresswoman from Missouri. She defeated longtime incumbent Lacy Clay in 2020.

Bush rose to prominence as an activist in St. Louis during the civil unrest and racial injustice protests following the fatal shooting of Michael Brown Jr. by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.
