"Rick Steves' Europe" began more than 20 years ago, and loyal fans have enjoyed watching Steves travel throughout Europe sharing his travel tips. He began his career as a travel guide and author before making his mark as a PBS host.

Rick Steves joined KMOX to tell all about a new show he has coming to PBS: "Rick Steves' Art of Europe." In the new show, he'll focus more on art, which has been featured in some of his past shows, but hasn't always been at the forefront.

"I've snuck in little bits of art and all of our shows on public television. But I've always wanted to have enough of an archive where I could really cobble together the whole story. So for the last two years, that's been our big project," Steves said.

The show takes viewers from the prehistoric times all the way up to Picasso. He said the goal is for viewers to understand what they're looking at, which makes it more rewarding. "Art has both a lot to teach us, and it's just flat out beautiful," he said.

Steves said the crew went to the eight greatest cities in Europe for filming art: Florence, Rome, Athens, London, Paris, Bruges, Madrid and Vienna.

"It's kind of fun to think that some of those cities are not that important today, but how important were they centuries ago when this art was done," he said.
